Hajj and Umrah Savings Calculator
Work out what your pilgrimage will really cost by the year you travel, and the monthly amount you need to set aside to be ready in time.
Save for the Journey, Not Yesterday's Price
Package prices rise every year. This planner inflates today's cost to your departure year, then solves the level monthly deposit that gets you there.
Understanding pilgrimage savings
What actually drives the price
Airfare and Makkah hotel distance from the Haram usually account for most of the difference between packages. Season matters too: the last ten nights of Ramadan carry a large Umrah premium, and Hajj pricing moves with Saudi service fees, Mina tent category and group size. A shorter stay or a hotel a few hundred metres further out can change the total by thousands.
Inflation can outrun your return
The number that decides whether waiting helps or hurts is the gap between cost inflation and your expected return. If costs rise 5% a year while your savings earn 4%, every extra year of delay makes the goal about 1% harder in real terms. When inflation exceeds your return, departing sooner with a smaller package is often cheaper than saving longer for a better one.
Keeping the savings Shariah-compliant
- Conventional interest-bearing deposits involve riba, so many pilgrims avoid them for this purpose
- Islamic savings accounts run on wadiah (safekeeping) or mudarabah (profit-sharing) terms
- Sukuk funds and Shariah-screened equity funds suit longer horizons but can fall in value
- Profit shares are estimates, not guarantees — a shorter horizon deserves a lower return assumption
Quotas, queues and deposits
- Hajj is quota-limited per country, so the wait can run from a couple of years to decades
- Many national schemes take a registration deposit that secures a queue number — count those years in "years until departure"
- Umrah has no quota and can be booked any time outside the Hajj season
- Keep a currency and late-increase buffer; operators often reprice after airline and hotel contracts are set
